autisminaustralia:
I’m autistic, I can’t trust neurotypicals and this blog makes it easy to keep an eye on how they treat people. Autism Australia is an automated blog that draws its links from Google Alerts, meaning that I first see most of these posts after they’re published.
I don’t agree with everything shared on Autism Australia, like this puff-piece on the ‘APA model’ or any of the Light Up It Blue stuff we’ll see this month. This blog is meant to give you a picture of how the Australian media covers autism, not just when it does it correctly. If anything on this blog angers you, I recommend complaining to the journalist or organisation possible. Journalists usually have their email under their byline and you can easily Google the contact details of any charity. That said, I will block sites that use the word ‘autism’ as an insult.
I think this blog is a great resource. If you’re an Aussie interested in autism awareness, this could be the best social media thingie you could follow.
